THE STORY

Ghani, a youth from a normal, wealthy family thought himself as a poor man. He wants to be disregarded, he wants to be called poor, he wants to receive donations and he loves begging.

This film shows his journey of life with conflict with his family, friends and colleagues.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

This film is about a state of mind. A state of mind where a person who loves to play the victim. Who loves to be regarded as the victim, the poor, the oppressed but in reality, the person's life is normal with everything to be happy with.

Poor is a state of mind would be the best, short and quick way to explain this film. Packed with irony, Ghani in Arabic means wealthy, the happiest point in the protagonist's life is the lowest point in his life.

This kind of mental state is a disease. It could lower our quality as humans. We should be positive, happy with everything around us, do better with everything around us, appreciate what we have around us. The world would be a better place without this disease

I had encounter a few individuals who had this kind of mental state. It is sad to see these beautiful, colourful life deteriorated because of wanting sympathies from others and playing victims

As a director, this is my message to you, 'Poor is a state of mind'.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

With all that, we need YOUR help to make this film a reality, and here is where all the funds allocated will go.

The funds we receive from this crowdfunding will help us in covering the costs of:

1. CAST- Funds will cover up the payment of the actors for 3 shooting days.

2. ART DEPARTMENT- This will cover the props for the film, in which we aim to look for street art design and items as our Production Designer has in mind. The budget will also go into building a set for a particular scene and to cover the cost of the makeup for the cast.

3. EQUIPMENT RENTAL- Most of the budget will go to renting Camera Accessories, Lighting, and Grip stuff. Our Cinematographer and Director have a clear vision of how the film should look and feel so we do need particular equipment to make this film successful.

4.  LOGISTICS - We have 6-7 shooting locations for 3 days shooting like a house, shop lot corridor, and dark alleys. We do need to pay the fees and permits for the respective locations, foods, and beverages for the cast and crew on set as accommodations as well.

5. DISTRIBUTION & MARKETING - We are making this film with the aim that it would travel to national and international film festivals. The funds received will be used to enter these film festivals and for the film to be able to be screened.

As our film is inspired by our Directors vison. It is much of a challenge for us to find the right cast for the specific characters in this short film who would be able to emote genuinely of their actions and feelings throughout the film.

Besides casting, our biggest challenge is soliciting funds for the whole production and post-production phase of our film. As we are still fresh grads who are pursuing our tertiary studies and are new to the industry, we are facing difficulties in proceeding with our production work and are in dire need of financial assistance. These funds will be really helpful to us in many ways possible and will be used wisely for our cast and fellow crewmates in terms of F&B, accommodation, and many more.

At the end of the day, it is important to us as a team not to just produce and make a good film, but a purposeful film. This film enables us to bring the issues concerning poverty within a society and also the fellow Malaysians mindset upon issues such as poverty.
